True Colours

Sometimes to show it's true colours a photograph just has to be viewed in black and white.

For this photo I used the 16-80 at 16mm. 3 exposures combined in Photomatix 1/125th, 1/80th, and 1/50th sec at f22. converted to black and white in Photoshop Elements. I can't wait to print this. In fact, I'm going to right now.

Photography Is Good For You

About 5 months ago I had a "small" heart attack which got me x6 bypass surgery. Since then I have taken up bicycling and go to a place called Barnston Island on a regular basis. I have ridden past this barn about fifty times thinking I should get some photos of it. Today I strapped on the backpack with camera in it. Lap one I rode seriously (for me ha ha) then on lap two I stopped and got out the camera. I spent a little time here but I can see I will have to be coming back more.

I used the 16-80 at 16mm  3 exposures 1/125, 1/200, and 1/320sec at f10 iso 100.  Photos were combined and tonemapped with Photomatix. Perspective was corrected in Lightroom3.

Brother Snail

I spotted this little fellow in the backyard and immediately thought of my little kitchen studio. I have seen photographs of animals on plain white background and really enjoyed them. I have been wanting to try something like that and figured this was a great opportunity as a snail would be a lot easier to handle than a badger, or wolverine, or cow even.

I used the 50mm macro 1/30th sec f29 iso 100. Main light to the right using a Lumiquest Softbox LTp and fill light shot through an umbrella to the left. Basically I set him down and chased him around the paper with the camera. He may have been slow but as soon as he was there he wanted to go.

After we were done I took him out to the fence to let him go and I realized we actually weren't quite done. I grabbed the camera and got some photos as he made his escape.

50mm macro again 1/80th sec f7.1 iso 800. Natural light in the shade.

Peter

Without getting all wordy and full of lengthy explanations, I posted this photo just because I really like it.

Shot with the 50mm 1/80th sec f6.3 iso 100. Flash above in front through an umbrella. Some processing in Lightroom.
